*EDIT* I also feel like I should add that the previous owner also has a pristine LeCar that he restored, as well as many other “micro-cars” that he is looking to start a museum with. Clearly these are my people. I’ll be doing a fun post with my new dressed-up Land Crusher soon!

I have an opportunity to purchase a 2004 LX470 with 146,000 miles. It is pearl white and in excellent condition, I can’t find anything wrong with it (though I’m in the “love is blind” stage right now for sure). It is a one-owner vehicle that was driven by a local business owner’s wife. She dearly loved it and hated to part with it. It was serviced at the nearest Lexus dealership, no expense spared. They would have loved to replace it with a new one, but just couldn’t justify 90+ grand that they are going for now. Instead they spent a paltry 73 grand on a plebeian Yukon XL.

My plan of course is to hoard it. It would be an extra car, maybe a winter driver for my wife when her FIATA comes in. I figure it’s a rare opportunity to have a vehicle that I could enjoy for a few years and then probably still sell it for more than I paid for it.

I can buy it for what I feel is a Nice Price (tm), although I welcome from you all your opinions on what that should be. Plus I just don’t know a whole lot about them. What should I look out for? Inform me, oppo.

THANKS

The only argument I could find is have you considered a newer GX with lower miles at a similar price?

(I love LXes. I’m not gonna even try to talk you out of it.)

Buy it and a gas station while you’re at it. They’re lovely, bulletproof things

I’m not even in need of another vehicle and would have little use for one of these. With that said, even in my situation I’d be tempted to buy. So, buy it.

Buy it. I’ve been looking at 80s and 100s for the past few weeks, so I’m not the right person to talk anyone out of buying one.

Definitely something to consider. I’m guessing because it’s twelve years old and even people who love their cars still upgrade them after so long. Good heads up, though.

My girlfriends family has an 06 and I am going to buy theirs from them when they are ready to sell it. The wife had a mishap where she drove it over a small rock retaining wall and into a building window. The only damage was a scratched front bumper and hood, the windshield cracked so the night vision system doesn’t work, and the running board was bent. Really a tank of a vehicle.

They do require their timing chain be replaced around 100K so make sure that has been done. Other than that its the same 4.7L V8 that was in the tundra so finding parts for it won’t be a challenge.

Check out Ih8mud if you have any questions. That is also a great place to start and see how this one compares to others that are out there. It sounds like a sweet truck though. An LX and a Fiata? I envy you!

Yeah, I can see some posh wifey not wanting to be seen in an “old” car anymore. Also some people still believe that at some made-up mileage cars suddenly become completely unreliable and utter death traps.

For former owner of my Honda sold a well maintained car shortly after 100k kms because he was afraid of big repair bills in the immediate future.

There’s still the possibility that they want to dump it before the CEL comes on again, or some other system decides to take the day off, before returning to normal service a day later.

I’d wager $20 that the Yukon that replaced this gets traded in on an $80k Land Cruiser in a yr for a $30k loss.

Every time I go on Ih8mud I get Cruiser Envy and have an immediate urge to spend much more time and/or money than I have on modifications to my (very) humble FJ80. However, every good modification or repair I’ve ever done was hugely helped by Ih8mud.

Thus: JCAlan , please do go on Ih8mud for all your Cruiser info needs, but please don’t get into comparing your Cruiser to the lunatic builds/pristine museum examples people post on there, or you will slowly go insane.
